Isemae Sushi Shinkan

伊勢前寿し 神貫

Database Recommended

An 8-seat counter pursuing a coined 'Ise-mae zushi' identity from Ise-Shima fish, at an accessible ¥15,000. The natural pairing for a VISON stay or a shrine-country drive.

At the Counter

Database curation · not yet visited

Drive inland from the Ise shrines toward the hills of Taki (多気) and you arrive at VISON — a sprawling, modern "food village" of farms, restaurants, and an onsen, built on a scale the brochures like to measure in Tokyo Domes. It is an unlikely setting for a serious sushi counter, and that incongruity is part of what makes Isemae Sushi Shinkan (伊勢前寿し 神貫) worth a curious traveler's attention. Eight seats of counter, set inside the village's dedicated sushi building, run by a young chef named Ikeda who is trying to do something with a name behind it.

That name is Ise-mae zushi (伊勢前寿し) — a deliberately coined tradition, trademarked and new, framing Ise Bay and the Ise-Shima coast as a terroir worthy of its own school of nigiri, the way Edo Bay once was. The conceit is romantic — the menu speaks of "the blessings of the gods in each piece" — but underneath it is a genuine chi-no-ri (地の利) claim: the appetizers, the grilled course, the tekone-zushi (てこね寿司) that is the fisherman's home dish of this coast, and the nigiri are all built to taste of Ise-Shima. The ¥15,000 course is broader than a pure nigiri omakase, which is honest to its setting: this is regional cuisine staged around a counter, not a stripped-down Tokyo-style edomae recital.

Temper expectations accordingly. The room opened in late 2025 and is still young and lightly reviewed; the venue's private rooms mean the atmosphere is more resort-restaurant than hushed neighborhood shop; and reaching Taki realistically means a car. But for a traveler already orbiting the shrines — or staying the night at VISON — this is a rare thing in Mie: an accessible, locally-minded counter at a fair price, with a point of view it is willing to put a name to.

Confirm the all-in price, the omakase format, and the photography policy when you reserve. A new room finding its feet rewards a guest who arrives knowing what it is.

Things to Consider

Opened late 2025 — a young, lightly-reviewed room, so calibrate expectations. Set inside the large VISON resort complex with private rooms beyond the counter, so the atmosphere is less intimate than a standalone shop. Car access essentially required; confirm price and photography at booking.
